Frequently asked question about lathe cuts and one-offs, short run embossed polycarbonate records.
NO, only 7 inch 45's and 7 inch 33rpm records. I purchase pre-cut 7.5" x 7.5" squares which are less expensive than purchasing round discs, round disc are four times more expensive due to CNC router labor cost. As for 10 and 12 inch records, When recording 10" and 12" blanks, one mistake, that whole blank goes to waste.
All our small hole lathe cuts are 9/32 of an inch which is the industry standard. If it's fitting too tight on your turntable, that's a common problem with turntables made in Japan, Technics, Pioneer, Sansui, Denon, perhasp, Audio Technica, Numark and Gemini, and Stanton and Pro-Ject.
Yes and No, automatic record changers will not always track the beginning grooves. I recommend placing the tonearm in the groove. Embossed records are not guaranteed to work with auto-return players and inexpensive turntables with plastic tonearms or some jukeboxes.
The difference between HiFi and LoFi is the loudness and surface noise. My cuts are made on a mastering Scully lathe which can make great sounding records, the cuts are stereo for lacquer acetates, high frequency range (20hz-15kHz), with very low surface noise. Most competitors emboss on 1940's Presto machines with a Presto cutting head with a steel needle. Frequency response is limited (40hz-9kHz), with lots of surface noise. On the other hand, my lathe cuts are done on a Westrex feedback cutting head employing my exclusive custom made sapphire embossing stylus, with extremely low surface noise @ (20hz-15Khz).
Our lathe cuts sound as good as a pressed vinyl LP record, No click or pops, Surface noise @ -40 dB. Audio with full frequncy responce.
Each song is different, and keep in mind that all studio recording sessions sound different, more bass and louder audio means it will occupy more groove space. Contact me if you have questions about side length.
These are the max time limits per side:
7inch 45 RPM 4:00 minutes perside
7inch 33 RPM 6:00 minutes perside
Loudness on a record is determined, if your side is longer than 4-5 minutes on a 7 inch and if it's bass heavy, this will restrict the headroom available to make a loud cut.
1 to 5 records ships the next day, 25 records ships 3 to 7 days, if your order is in by Friday, it will ship on Monday for 1-5 records. 10 to 25 records will ship on Wednesday.
No, I prefer that you place your order with files and payment together, so I can do the work in the order as they come in.
Please send all files through my Wetransfer.com link, I will not accept files from any other sites or email. WAV ,MP3, ACC, FLAC, OGG, don't send WMA files, because incase I have to edited the ending to do a fade-out if it ends abruptly. WMA files have to be converted to another format.
Lathe cut records should last as long as pressed records.
Push the playback needle so it can sit right in the groove. The stylus may be riding between the grooves. This is a common occurrence, and there is nothing wrong with your record.
